BLUE HOLE

July 31st, 2008 Taylor and her cousin Kara went with me to the Blue Hole to take some photos with my new Nikon D80 camera.  We spent a couple of hours at this scenic site, which is probably the most visited of any waterfalls in east Tennessee.  I took a lot of photos while the girls explored.  We eventually got caught by a thunderstorm (I think "deluge" is a better word), but all of us had a great time regardless of our soaking wet ride home.

The Blue Hole is a series of four very scenic waterfalls located just outside of Stoney Creek, Tennessee on the southern side of Holston Mountain.  Each waterfall is unique and has a drop of approximately 15 feet.  Three of the falls can be seen on this page, but the 4th is not very accessible to be photographed.

Total Miles Hiked:  0.2

Getting There:

Driving - From Elizabethton, get on Highway 91 toward Stoney Creek.  Proceed ~10 miles and take a left on Panhandle Road.  Continue for another mile to a graveled parking area on your left (you'll see the sign).

Trails - This is really not a "hike" as the parking area is within .1 mile to all of the falls.  Just follow the trail to the right of the parking area, and within a couple of minutes you'll reach the 1st of the 4 waterfalls.  Be advised that there are some steep areas and drop-offs, which could be dangerous for unsupervised children (or careless adults).
