  Blue Hole & Holston Mountain

April 23rd - We took advantage of the nice weather on a Monday evening to visit the Blue Hole near Stony Creek (at the base of Holston Mountain).  This wasn't our first time at this pretty spot, but it is always a treat every time we visit.  The Blue Hole consists of 4 sets of waterfalls (each with about 15 feet drop)... the first three are seen in the photos below.  The last (4th) waterfall is not very accessible for photos so it is not shown.

This wasn't a hike as it's easily reached from the road.  The entire trip is less than .5 mile on foot, and all the falls are in a very compact area.

After spending some time exploring the Blue Hole we got back into the Jeep and traveled to the top of Holston Mountain (The three photos we took are at the bottom of this page, and we would have taken more but the  camera's card was full).  The views from the power line cut-outs were fantastic as we could see Holston Lake, Mount Rogers, and the Stony Creek/Elizabethton/Johnson City area.  We traveled all the way to the top Holston High Point (elevation from my GPS was 4257 feet), which is where the majority of the TV and Radio towers are located on Holston.  There were lots of hiking trails that we crossed that we may have to explore some day.
