Round Bald

October 12th, 2008 After visiting Laurel Falls we drove up to Carver's Gap to check out the fall colors.  They were not a disappointment.  We made the short 0.5 mile climb up to the summit of Round Bald in some high winds, but it was well worth it.

We took a lot of photos and enjoyed the scenery before hiking back down the mountain.  We really enjoyed our hike and the day with Erick, Amy, and family.

Driving - From Elizabethton take Rte. 19E to the town of Roan Mountain.  Turn right onto Rte. 143 and proceed 12.8 miles to the TN/NC state line.  This is Carver's Gap.  There's a parking lot on your right.

Trails - To get to Round Bald...

After parking, cross the road and head north on the Appalachian Trail following the white blazes.  You will come to the summit of Round Bald in approximately .5 mile.
